Service-Learning Aficionados!
The service-learning course WRTG 3020-Hunger in America and Abroad is
hosting a symposium entitled The Skinny on Hunger December 3rd in Hale
270 at 6:30 PM.
Whole Foods Catering is providing snacks for the event, and the class
has arranged to bring in Natalie and Floyd Hand, co-founders of the
Looks for Buffalo Foundation, from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation for
a keynote speech on Third-World living conditions in a first-world
nation. Before this keynote address, students will present their
research from this semester about how hunger manifests itself in
different forms for different groups, e.g. explaining the difference
between fighting hunger in urban as opposed to rural areas. Most
importantly, the students will highlight ways we, as concerned citizens,
can make a difference in the lives of these various populations.
Admission is free, and Conscious Alliance will be running a food drive
at the event, where 10 canned goods will earn donors a free poster from
artist Robert Marx. This promises to be an enlightening and engaging
experience for all who attend. We hope to see you in Hale 270 at 6:30 PM
on Dec. 3rd.
Sincerely,
Hunger in America and Abroad
